600 Blizzard staff getting laid off!

With the drop of World of Warcraft subscribers, from 12 million to 10.2 million, Blizzard is cutting 600 staff members globally. Most of the staff that are getting fired are not from game development departments, so all the on-going games in development, such as Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 expansions, and Blizzard DOTA, will still be in progress.

Losing your job is never fun, especially not when you were working at Blizzard. I hope that Blizzard will still continue to deliver promising titles. Could the massive drop in WoW subscribers be due to competitive title such as Star Wars: The Old Republic? Or is Activision behind this? Who knows?

  2. I choose to believe the drop is because of a drop in game quality. I say this as a former subscriber. The numbers were dropping and there were problems way before Star Wars. They need to up their game, maybe this was the shake up they needed.

    1. But maybe they were contributing, but Blizzard felt that they were overstaffed.

  7. I've been waiting for the day that they would crumlbe. I feel bad for the displaced workers, but also bad for the countless gamers who just take what they're given.

    1. I'm sure other game companies would be more than welcomed to employ Blizzard staff members.

  10. Their merge with Activision was the WORST thing to ever happen to Blizzard. We can see decision after decision how the company is not what it once was. Why oh why did they merge >:(
