With the drop of World of Warcraft subscribers, from 12 million to 10.2 million, Blizzard is cutting 600 staff members globally. Most of the staff that are getting fired are not from game development departments, so all the on-going games in development, such as Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 expansions, and Blizzard DOTA, will still be in progress.
Losing your job is never fun, especially not when you were working at Blizzard. I hope that Blizzard will still continue to deliver promising titles. Could the massive drop in WoW subscribers be due to competitive title such as Star Wars: The Old Republic? Or is Activision behind this? Who knows?

i like to try this game
ReplyDeleteWoW was never good.
ReplyDeleteThat's so uncool!
ReplyDeleteThat's sad.
ReplyDeleteOw that's going to suck. Time to go to Valve I guess.
ReplyDeleteI choose to believe the drop is because of a drop in game quality. I say this as a former subscriber. The numbers were dropping and there were problems way before Star Wars. They need to up their game, maybe this was the shake up they needed.
ReplyDeleteI would say Activision is the reason behind the drop in game quality.
Deletelol no comment
DeleteI never played WoW.
ReplyDeletei heard this on the radio i was like O.o
ReplyDeletetrimming the fat
ReplyDeletehiring better marketing
you know the drill
they removed the guys that weren't contributing
much like I'm dong now to my blog follow list, people that don't post in over a month without warning, gone
But maybe they were contributing, but Blizzard felt that they were overstaffed.
DeleteWoah that's insane. like really. not good news at all. /:
ReplyDeleteThere are 10 million people that play WOW? Omg... LOL All I can think of is the Southpark episode.. haha
ReplyDeleteYeah it's hard to believe!
Deletemaybe that'll fix their next games
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for the day that they would crumlbe. I feel bad for the displaced workers, but also bad for the countless gamers who just take what they're given.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure other game companies would be more than welcomed to employ Blizzard staff members.
DeleteMy money's on Activision CEO Kotick (more specifically his greed), he will do anything to save money -__-
ReplyDeleteIt's people like him that ruins the game industry.
DeleteOuch, imagine finally getting that dream job at Blizzard! then getting laid off....
ReplyDeleteTheir merge with Activision was the WORST thing to ever happen to Blizzard. We can see decision after decision how the company is not what it once was. Why oh why did they merge >:(
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more with that.
Deletewere are you from Zyu? I see all your adds are for Asia :) And are you a boy or a girl :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm a guy from Asia.
DeleteFeeling sorry for them and their families, hopefully they can get picked up by another company :).
ReplyDeleteDang 10.2 million is still a lot of players especially for what they charge a month to play
ReplyDeletecomplaining about the location :) lol
ReplyDeletehopefully Diablo 3 will come out as good as im expecting it to be
ReplyDeleteI am really interested in that new blizzard MMO. I wonder if it will rock the world like WoW did?
